Tesla Robotaxi spotted validation testing in Pennsylvania ahead of service expansion

Soon, Pennsylvania is not going to be just popular for the myth of Dracula, as Tesla (TSLA) begins testing of its Robotaxi platform in the state.

Yesterday, a Tesla enthusiast spotted a Tesla Model Y Robotaxi near Enola, Pennsylvania. Interestingly, these Robotaxi vehicles are equipped with testing validation apparatus.

This is the same lidar-like equipment that was seen on Robotaxi vehicles in Austin, Texas, earlier this year, weeks ahead of its official launch in the Lone Star state.

Robotaxi validation testing marks the precursor of an imminent launch of the Robotaxi Service in that area. Tesla is most probably close to launching the Robtaxi Service in Pennsylvania.

A follower of Tesla influencer, Sawyer Merritt, sent him a couple of pictures he took of the Model Y Robotaxi loaded with validation equipment. These photos were taken in Enola, PA, as per the source.

In one of our previous Robotaxi articles, we reported on which new cities Tesla is preparing to expand the Robotaxi Service. However, Pennsylvania was not one of these locations and came to the limelight as a surprise.

Tesla has gradually increased the Robotaxi Service area in Austin, Texas. However, there have been no significant expansion of the Robotaxi Service in California beyond the San Francisco Bay Area.

Person familiar with the Pennsylvania automotive market and road conditions gives insights on the impact of Robotaxi Service in the state.

Earlier this month, Tesla announced that the next destinations for the Robotaxi Service are Nevada, Florida, and Arizona. However, Robotaxi testing in Pennsylvania comes as a surprise.

Most probably, Tesla is planning PA as the 4th destination for the launch of the Robotaxi Service and performing testing and gathering local road and traffic condition data in advance. Tesla’s Robotaxi Service works inside a geofenced area, but it keeps expanding as we’ve witnessed in Austin, TX.

Tesla will launch its Robotaxi Service in select cities of these new states with a small geofenced area at first and expand the map gradually. The map in the Tesla Robotaxi app will add the new location, and one user has hinted at further expansion in Austin as of this writing.
