There is good news for car buyers in Australia and New Zealand as Tesla (TSLA) has just revisited its warranty policy for customers in these countries.

The US-based automaker is now offering a 5-year and Unlimited Kilometers warranty for 2026 Tesla Model Y and Model 3 electric cars. This new policy will apply to Tesla Model 3 and Tesla Model Y EVs purchased on or after January 1, 2026, in Australia and New Zealand.

This is the first time Tesla is offering a warranty covering an unlimited number of kilometers. Tesla owners in these two countries will have the peace of mind and the freedom to drive their Tesla Model Y/3 cars for as much as they want within 5 years.

Until 2025, Tesla offered a limited warranty of 4 years and 80,000 kilometers (~50,000 miles). Tesla added 1 year and allowed Tesla Model 3/Y owners to drive for an unlimited distance in its updated 2026 warranty policy.

Tesla emailed this new policy to its customers in Australia & New Zealand. Tesla’s online car configurator for these countries also shows the updated warranty policy for Model 3 and Model Y.

The email explains the details of the policy as:

5 Years, Unlimited Kilometers

Every new Tesla vehicle is protected by our New Vehicle Limited Warranty—giving you confidence in every drive.

Basic Limited Vehicle Warranty

We have updated our Basic Limited Vehicle Warranty from 4 years or 80,0000 kilometers to 5 years and unlimited kilometers.

The updated warranty period will apply to all new Model 3 and Model Y vehicles delivered i New Zealand/Australia from 1 January 226 (except commercial use vehicles) and includes Roadside Assistance for the duration of the warranty period.

Basically, all the drive Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) Model 3 and Model Y variants come with an 8-year/160,000 kilometers drive unit and battery warranty.

The higher-end All-Wheel Drive and Performance variants of the Model Y and Model 3 come with a battery+drive unit warranty of 8 years or 192,000 kilometers (see screenshot below for each variant).
