Tesla launches new blue colors for higher Model Y and Model 3 trims (prices, availability, comparison)

After many years in service, Tesla (TSLA) finally says goodbye to the Deep Blue Metallic paint. It stayed in Tesla’s color palette for a very long time.

Tesla has phased out the Deep Blue Metallic color globally. For new orders worldwide, this color is no longer available.

The electric vehicle-maker introduced two new colors for the Model Y and Model 3 higher-end trims, Marine Blue and Frost Blue Metallic.

In the United States, the Premium variants of the Model Y and 3 now offer the new Marine Blue color in place of Deep Blue Metallic. The Frost Blue Metallic color is only available for Model 3 and Model Y Performance variants.

The Frost Blue Metallic color was first introduced for the Model S and Model X last year. This is a lighter, cooler-ish shade of blue that is close to the Giga Shanghai-made Model Y Juniper’s Glacier Blue color.

The Marine Blue color, as seen in the image above, is a darker shade of blue. It looks even darker and deeper than the Deep Blue Metallic. As the name suggests, Tesla took the inspiration for this color from the deep oceans.

Prices and Availability

The Frost Blue Metallic color is not yet available in Canada and the European market. Apparently, Tesla hasn’t added Frost Blue to the Giga Berlin paint shop. Instead, Marine Blue is available in Canada and Europe for customers who want a shade of blue.

The Frost Blue Paint option for Model Y and Model 3 Performance is currently only available in the United States, Puerto Rico, and Mexico.

Marine Blue color costs an additional €1,300 in Europe for both Model 3/Y Premium AWD and Performance versions.

Marine Blue is included in the price of the Model 3/Y Performance trims in Canada. However, it costs an additional CAD$1,300 for the All-Wheel Drive Premium Model Y and Model 3 variants.

In the US, all premium color options are included in the price of the Model 3 or the Model Y Performance. Marine Blue costs an additional #1,000 for Model 3/Y Premium in the US.

Let’s look at the following image for comparison of the old Deep Blue Metallic and the new Marine Blue and Frost Blue Metallic colors.

Late in April, along with many Tesla owners, I received an email from Tesla announcing a 1-year free Supercharging if you buy a new Model 3 Premium AWD or the Performance version.

However, free Supercharging does not waive the idle and congestion fees. So, it’s a good chance to save a year of fuel charges by buying a new Tesla Model 3 Performance or AWD.
