Tesla (TSLA) expanded the Robotaxi/Cybrcab geofence in Austin, Texas, today. The autonomous ride-hailing service provider timed the geofence map expansion with the start of the 2026 US Grand Prix.
The highly celebrated Formula 1 racing event is being held at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, from October 23-26.
Tesla rolled out an update to its Robotaxi mobile app early this morning that expands the geofence map area that includes the Circuit of the Americas site.
The last time Tesla expanded the Austin Robotaxi map was ahead of the Cyebrcab launch in September. This is a perfectly timed move for Tesla, as many Grand Prix attendees will be moving to and from the race circuit during the event.
Tesla didn’t just expand the Robotaxi/Cybercab map in Austin; the automaker also extended service hours to 1 AM. Tesla will likely revert the timings once the Grand Prix ends on Monday.

The edited map above shows the total new area marked with a green line, and the dotted line shows the previous geofence map of Tesla Robotaxi Service in Austin, Texas.
Tesla’s new strategy to leverage a high-traffic event like the Grand Prix is a strong way to generate revenue and promote its autonomous ride-hailing service.
The automaker does not advertise through traditional media like television. Instead, it relies mostly on social media and word of mouth to build awareness of its products and services.
The map expansion happened today (Oct 23). Some users reported that the Tesla Robotaxi app still showed the area as blocked when they tried to hire a Cybercab to the Circuit of the Americas site.
However, this might be a temporary issue, and Tesla should be able to resolve it soon. If the users are not able to reach the Grand Prix arena, the service will not be very effective.
We reported earlier today that Tesla is working on launching the Robotaxi Service in four more US cities soon. This will bring the total to 10 cities in the United States.
As more and more cities and states are added to the Tesla Robotaxi service, the automaker will be able to leverage even more impactful and high-traffic events to offer and promote its Robotaxi Service.
