Sal Khan, the founder of Khan Academy gave a big shout out to Elon Musk and the Musk Foundation for a generous donation of $5 million. Khan admires Elon Musk’s efforts in spreading free education for everyone on the planet.

With this sizable donation, Khan Academy will be able to accelerate the creation of all sorts of educational content, freely available for humanity. In addition to the currently available courses, Khan Academy aspires to cater to all educational levels from Kindergarten to college courses.

I myself recently have started learning Electrical Engineering at Khan Academy, I enrolled in this course to better understand sustainable energy and electric vehicles. There are billions of people around the globe who can benefit from this effort by Khan Academy and funding sources like the Musk Foundation.

Using this grant, Khan Academy will be able to further enhance the user experience of their online courses and make learning science, engineering, and all the other subjects more engaging, says Sal Khan in the following video.

According to Sal Khan, the Khan Academy has 120 million registered users as of today and 20-30 million students actively learning from the platform every month, this equates to 200-300 million hours of learning per year. This is a huge impact Khan Academy is making on the current and future generations who want to learn without bounds.

We are the budget of a large high school, but our aspirations are to serve the globe.

Sal Khan recalls the first time Elon Musk visited the Khan Academy office in 2013, he still remembers a user comment on the event’s YouTube video, “I want to find someone who looks at me the same way that Sal looks at Elon,” said someone anonymous.

Khan is himself a fan of Elon Musk and admires his vision and mission whether it be the Tesla electric vehicles, sustainable energy, or SpaceX aiming to make human life multi-planetary.

Elon Musk is not a big fan of the traditional education system, in the age of the internet and computers, learning is basically free for the ones who truly want to learn. In the world of Elon, colleges are a place to socialize with same-age students, having fun, and proving that you can do your homework — he expressed these views in an interview (video below).

The Musk Foundation website lists the following areas the non-profit organizations donate to:

– Renewable energy research and advocacy
– Human space exploration research and advocacy
– Pediatric research
– Science and engineering education
– Development of safe artificial intelligence to benefit humanity
