Tesla owners are the most satisfied with their cars — Consumer Reports survey

Consumer Reports has released its 2020 most and least liked car brands of the year survey results. Tesla has once again topped the chart because Tesla owners are the most loyal ones amongst car buyers.

Tesla has a winning streak when it comes to car owner satisfaction and loyalty surveys that Consumer Reports has conducted over the years. In 2019, Consumer Reports reported that Tesla owners are the most in-love with their cars.

Last year, Tesla Model 3 was the only American born and made car included in Consumer Reports’ 2020 top picks.

With 88 points out of 100, Tesla beats all the other major car brands present in the United States. Tesla scored the highest in the areas of Driving, Comfort, and In-Car Electronics (see chart below). Competing car brands seriously lack in the area of in-car electronics and in-car entertainment.

With the launch of the 2021 Tesla Model S and Model X, the Silicon Valley-based automaker has taken in-car entertainment to the next level by adding 10 Teraflops of gaming power, on par with the likes of PS5 and Xbox One. However, the 2021 Tesla Model S refresh was not counted in the survey and review yet.

Before jumping to the results, let’s see how Consumer Reports measures these results:

How We Rate Satisfaction

Results are from the 2020 Annual Auto Surveys on 369,000 vehicles. Data from the 2018 to 2020 model years (plus a few 2021 models) were used, provided a vehicle wasn’t significantly changed over that time. Some ratings might be based on a single model year. The Would Buy Again score is based on the percentage of owners who responded “definitely yes” to the question of whether they would buy the same vehicle if they had it to do all over again (considering price, performance, reliability, comfort, enjoyment, etc.). Factor ratings were determined based on the percentage of owners who said they were “very satisfied.” Driving reflects acceleration and handling. Comfort includes seats, noise, and ride. Value determines whether owners felt they got what they wanted relative to the purchase price. In-car electronics refers to the ease of using the infotainment systems and Bluetooth. Cabin storage is storage spaces between seats, in cup holders and the dashboard, and other storage, not including trunk space. For more information, see CR’s Guide to Car Reliability.

Customer satisfaction for the Tesla owners is likely to even increase this year as the automaker expressed its efforts in the after-sales service area in the Q4 2020 Earnings Call.
