There has been a lot going on for Tesla in Shanghai, China during the last week. The most interesting part is that the US-based automaker chose a service center in Shanghai to showcase the body-in-white (BIW) of the new design-refresh Tesla Model S.

An event was organized for the opening of a new Tesla Store and the 14th Service Center in Shanghai yesterday. At this event, the officials from Tesla displayed and explained the new Model S body-in-white to the event participants.

According to the reports by Tesla influencer Jay in Shanghai, Tesla China plans to open a total of 17 Service Center locations in Shanghai alone this year. So 3 more locations will be added by the end of this year.

Historically, Tesla has been showcasing the chassis of its electric cars at the showrooms, especially during the company’s early years like the Tesla Store in Chiswick London back in 2016.

At the time, there were a limited number of stores globally and Tesla had to spread awareness about its cars and EVs in general. With around 450 stores worldwide now and being an established brand, Tesla has fewer of these around for public viewing as time passes.

Tesla originally planned to make the new Model S with the 4680 cells and structural battery pack but these upgrades had to be delayed due to several constraints. But still, the new Model S is one of the safest cars on the roads today due to its structural design and advanced software.

Another interesting thing that happened at another event was the unique light show. Tesla China employees used the headlights of Tesla vehicles along with background lights to perform a light show on Elon Musk’s song “Don’t Doubt Your Vibe, Because It’s You”. Musk wrote this song back in 2020, let’s watch the light show.

  1. Had a 2015 tesla S. Loved it but wanted something smaller. Considered a 3 but with no hatchback we got a 2020 Y. It’s like driving a refrigerator. Perfect car, no fun. Feels like a Toyota. Just ordered a Lucid. It’ll take a year. Wonder what the S will look like. Had a Smart electric not enough car, also now have an electric mini. Fun.
