The 47th President of the United States Donald J. Trump said on Friday that a 25% import tariff would be imposed on Canada starting 1st Feb 2025.
This statement came in light of Elon Musk’s Department Of Government Efficiency (DOGE) analysis of controlling US expenditure and increasing revenue at the same time.
However, a response from the other side of the border wasn’t unexpected. The former finance minister and candidate for the next prime minister of Canada Chrystia Freeland issued a statement that proposes a 100% tariff on Elon Musk‘s Tesla cars being imported into Canada, Financial Times reported.
“Canada must threaten to impose a 100 percent tariff on all Tesla vehicles and a 100 percent tariff on US wine, beer and spirits if unfair tariffs are imposed on Canadians,” Chrystia Freeland said.
Tesla Vehicle Prices in Canada after 1st February
Although, this is just a proposal from a politician currently not in office, the statement made headlines across the globe.
Elon Musk’s Tesla (TSLA) increased the prices of its vehicles in Canada by a considerable amount from 1st February. For example, the price of the base Model 3 RWD has been increased by CA$5,000 which now starts at CA$59,990 (the previous price was CA$54,990).
The other variants of the Tesla Model 3 saw an even bigger price increase (list below). However, it’s not confirmed if the US-Canada tariff war is the trigger of these insane price increases for Tesla vehicles in Canada.
Tesla Model 3 New Prices in Canada
Tesla Model 3 received the most insane price hikes across all variants. The base variant got a CA$5,000, the mid-tier variant got a CA$9,000, and the top-end Performance version received a CA$10,000 increase in its price on 1st February.
Here’s the new list of prices for Tesla Model 3 in Canada:
- Tesla Model 3 RWD = CA$59,990 (previous: CA$54,990 — an increase of CA$5,000)
- Tesla Model 3 Long Range AWD = CA$68,990 (previous: CA$59,990 — an increase of CA$9,000)
- Tesla Model 3 Performance AWD = CA$79,990 (previous: CA$69,990 — an increase of CA$10,000)

Tesla Model Y New Prices in Canada
The legacy Tesla Model Y electric SUV received a CA$4,000 price increase across all variants.
The comparatively lower price hike of the Model Y is attributed to the launch of the new Model Y Juniper Launch Series. The automaker aims to empty its inventory of the old generation Model Ys.
Here’s the list of new prices of Tesla Model Y in Canada post February 1:
- Tesla Model Y RWD = CA$64,990 (previous: CA$60,990)
- Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD = CA$68,990 (previous: CA$64,990)
- Tesla Model Y Performance AWD = CA$73,990 (previous: CA$69,990)
