Tesla (TSLA) brings smiles on the faces of its customers waiting for a Full Self-Driving (FSD) software update for more than 2 months now. Finally, the tech & AI automaker releases a new FSD v13 point release.
Early access beta testers report getting the new FSD v13.2.9 update to their vehicles. Interestingly, this FSD updates is tied to the latest Spring Update point release version 2025.14.6 that fixes the TCU bug (details below).
Tesla vehicles with the newer HW4/AI4 hardware are getting upgraded to FSD v13.2.9. HW3/AI3 Teslas are also getting the new 2025.14.6 Spring Update, but these older cars are still on the previous FSD v12.6.4.
The Spring Update 2025.14.6 OTA update point release was first reported by internal employees last week. However, Tesla is now deploying this update to the original early access group and non-beta testers as well.
As of this writing, the FSD v13.2.9 and FSD v12.6.4 have started to roll out just a few hours ago. Testing and reviews of this new installment have yet to be shared by Tesla owners.
Data from Tesla software tracking websites (Tesssie and TeslaFi) suggests that around 1.1 to 2% of the Tesla fleet has received the new Spring Update version 2025.14.6.
With the previous Spring Update version 2025.14.3.1, some Tesla owners using FSD experienced a few regressions. Although this firmware version did not update FSD, the difference in FSD behavior was noticeable, especially for vehicles on FSD v13.2.8.
Regressions or odd FSD behavior weren’t very noticeable on Tesla HW3 vehicles after installing the previous 2025.14.3.1 update.
The TCU issues and FSD (Supervised) bugs most probably pushed Tesla to deploy the new 2025.14.6 update on a short notice to fix these problems.
TCU Issue in 2025.14 and Subversions
A wide spectrum of Tesla owners were facing issues with their vehicle’s Telematics Control Unit (TCU). The TCU in a Tesla is responsible for communications between the car and its connected mobile app.
There is no turn-off button or physical key that puts a Tesla vehicle to sleep or an OFF mode. The vehicle automatically decides when it’s unoccupied, parked, and it’s time to go into sleep mode.
After installing the 2025.14 and its various point release versions, many Tesla owners reported that their vehicles weren’t properly going to sleep even when parked overnight. This bug in Tesla firmware resulted in far more battery drain on idle/park than it normally would.
Although the release notes of the 2025.14.6 update don’t specifically mention the fix to this problem but various sources suggest that this version is going to resolve this issue.
As this is currently the newest Tesla software update, we will be reporting Tesla owners’ experience with the 2025.14.6 in terms of the TCU issue. So, stay tuned for further updates.
