Tesla CEO Elon Musk has just announced that the automaker will hold the awaited Tesla AI Day on Thursday, August 19, 2021. He had previously hinted that Tesla AI day is coming in a month or so back in June.

But the event got delayed because Elon Musk and Tesla’s plate is already full “Those who have not actually been involved in the manufacturing ramp-up just have no idea how painful and difficult it is. You gotta eat a lot of glass,” Musk said during the Q2 2021 Earnings Call.

Musk posted the Tesla AI Day date on Twitter just a few hours ago.

Since Elon Musk is primarily a computer programmer himself, Tesla not only emerged as an electric car company but the true edge of Tesla is its most advanced software that no other automaker focused on seriously in the past.

Musk feels that Volkswagen is trying to change this under the leadership of Herbert Diess but from my perspective, even VW is too late, the pace of innovation at Tesla has just outclassed the entire industry at once. “Carmakers have never valued software engineering highly, although VW is trying to change that,” Musk tweeted, “Tesla is on par with best software companies & is leader in real-world AI,” he further stated.

Tesla AI Director Andrej Karpathy recently untangled some deep information about Tesla’s vision-based approach for Autopilot and shared images of the supercomputer that is used for Tesla AI and neural network training.

At Tesla AI Day, the automaker’s artificial intelligence and Autopilot / Full Self-Driving (FSD) teams will share their achievements in detail. This will give the world an idea of how deep the Tesla AI rabbit hole goes. However, Musk has previously said that the basic purpose of AI Day is to recruit the best AI and computer vision talent.

The last time Musk announced the Tesla AI Day, it was thought that the FSD Beta V9 software will be released the same day but it has already been rolled out. Tesla is set to release the V9.1 update to FSD Beta tester cars tomorrow. So, expecting another update till August 19 would be asking for too much from the Tesla AI development team.
