Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced on Twitter yesterday that the now Texas-based automaker is going to hold a grand opening party for Giga Texas early next year (2022).

This grand opening party will also offer factory tours just like the Giga Berlin Giga-Fest event held on October 10, 2021. The Tesla Community from Texas will be attending this mega event but as always Tesla influencers from YouTube and Twitter will surely be allowed to make an appearance as well.

This announcement by Elon Musk came after our friend and Twitter follower Gail Alfar tweeted that it’s getting harder and harder to see inside the factory during drone filming as the walls are going up. Musk being the CEO of a trillion-dollar company did not ignore this concern of a Tesla owner and enthusiast.

On the other hand, a 4680 cell production line has been spotted by the local observers who regularly fly their drone cameras around the factory. This 4680 production equipment was first spotted on 18th December by Joe Tegtmeyer.

Joe also posted a slow-motion video clip of the 4680 cell manufacturing area at Giga Texas.

A Tesla enthusiast and Physics engineer Alex thinks the 4 different stations seen in the pics and video above perform different tasks some of which involve lasers. The processes possibly are “Electrode flag-patterning, Jelly-roll winding, and Current collector welding,” Alex tweeted.

In the past, Elon Musk has said multiple times that the Tesla Model Y electric SUVs made at Giga Texas and Giga Berlin will have the new 4680 cells and the structural battery pack. Since the 4680 pilot plant at the Fremont factory has a limited production capacity and most of it is probably going towards Semi Truck production, Giga Texas needed to have its own 4680 production.

Making 4680 form factor cells with Tesla’s new chemistry is vital for increasing range, efficiency, and rate of battery pack production. These new cells will also be used for Cybertruck production that is scheduled to start next year at the same Gigafactory in Texas.

Joe also posted the latest construction progress drone footage and information on his YouTube channel from yesterday (Dec 20). This is some amazing footage of this megastructure and marvel of engineering aka Giga Texas.
