Italian Giga Casting machine manufacturer IDRA announced that its 9,000-ton die-casting machine is packed and ready to leave the manufacturing facility to its final destination.

This destination is of course none other than Tesla’s Gigafactory in Austin, Texas. The world-leading electric automaker announced in its Q3 2022 earnings update that Cybertruck has transitioned from the ‘development’ stage to the ‘tooling’ phase.

How can tooling be achieved without the machine that makes the Cybertruck? So, IDRA had already prepared to ship the machine to the United States.

Tesla needed a Giga Casting machine to produce the Cybertruck underbody and IDRA offered its services. At first, IDRA and Tesla agreed upon an 8,000-ton die-casting machine for the purpose but later on the capacity was increased to 9,000-ton.

IDRA Group posted the following photo of a super-large box on its LinkedIn company page, the caption read “Packed and ready to go!” with a hashtag of #9000t.

Earlier this month, IDRA released a video on YouTube updating the status of the 9,000-ton Giga Press that the build and testing phases have been completed. “What’s Next?” the title of the video asked, of course, ship it to Giga Texas to start real Cybertruck production engineering.

Just last week, officials from the North American Die Casting Association (NADCA) visited the IDRA Group’s assembly plant in Travagliato, Italy — and took look at the 9,000-ton Cybertruck Giga Casting machine up close and personal.

The sheer size of the 9,000-ton IDRA Giga Press can be seen in the following picture as 5 grown-up adults are standing inside the machine and there is still space left for at least two more.

This should be great news for the Cybertruck reservation holders (1 million+) as Tesla is aiming to start production mid-next year and deliveries in late 2023.

The arrival of the Cybertruck Giga Casting machine at Giga Texas should be a big celebration that we might witness in the near future. Stay tuned for the updates and let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
