Tesla Cybertruck spotted with interior ambient lighting and front bumper camera in Austin, Texas

A Tesla enthusiast was waiting for his meal at the Raising Cane’s restaurant in Austin, Texas when a Cybertruck parked just outside — providing a clear view through the dinner table. What was next, we got some pre-delivery feature leaks as the person took some good-quality photos.

u/ThrowAwayBarista69 posted these photos on the r/cybertruck subreddit and the post exploded with comments and upvotes.

These photos expose two distinct features of the Cybertruck — interior ambient lighting and the presence of a front-facing bumper camera.

As we can see in the pictures above and below, a thin line of red ambient lighting is going all the way from the dashboard across both the front and the rear doors of the Cybertruck. The color can also be amber as the picture was taken from a distance so it’s difficult to identify the exact color.

Cybertruck’s ambient lighting feature was not revealed in previous photos of the interior. The feature might have been turned off since most of the earlier pictures were taken in the daytime. Or, the feature might have not been present in those Cybertruck prototypes, the current ones roaming in Austin, TX especially are the release candidate (RC) trucks.

Just like the Cybertruck itself, the look and feel of the ambient lighting pattern is a subjective matter. In my personal opinion, I do not find it much appealing at first look. Perhaps, if there is an option to change the color from the center screen UI, the feature would be tempting. A white/silver/chrome color ambient lighting would go better with the Cybertruck personality, IMO.

If we pay close attention to the center screen of the Cybertruck in the above picture, we can see a video feed of the street. This view of the street is coming from the front bumper camera because, on the rear, it’s an intersection and the Cybertruck is parked almost close to the street’s corner.

Cybertruck has had a front bumper camera since the early prototypes. But this feature going to production is now confirmed. This new bumper camera is part of Tesla’s new Hardware 4 (HW4) Autopilot suite of cameras and the computer.

Interestingly, a bumper camera was recently spotted on a Project Highland Tesla Model 3 prototype. This suggests that Tesla is going to add the bumper camera on all the design-refreshed vehicles in the future.

A bumper camera feed is definitely going to add an extra view for Tesla Autopilot and help in achieving Elon Musk’s dream of Full Self-Driving (FSD) Tesla vehicles.
