Tesla brings Stealth Grey and Ultra Red colors for the Model Y SUV in North America but not for the Model 3

Tesla (TSLA) has upgraded its Model Y paint shops at the Fremont car factory in California and Giga Texas to offer two new paint options — Stealth Grey and Ultra Red.

All the customers placing a new Tesla Model Y order now get the Stealth Grey color as ‘included’ instead of the Midnight Silver Metallic. The previous Red Multi-Coat is now replaced by the Ultra Red color option which costs an additional $2,000.

Tesla introduced these shades of gray and red for the Model 3 Highland in China, Europe, and the Middle East last year. The US Model 3 is still waiting on these new colors while they are now available for the Model Y electric SUV in the US, Canada, and Puerto Rico (North America).

Late last year, Tesla transitioned the Model S and Model X paint options to include the new Stealth Grey and Ultra Red colors. The best-selling electric SUV in the world, the Model Y now has these new better-looking colors as well.

Since Tesla launched the Model Y in 2020, this is the first time that the automaker has offered new colors for the vehicle and discontinued two original colors i.e. Midnight Silver Metallic and Red Multi-Coat.

Tesla did not offer the new colors for the legacy Model 3 that is still on sale in North America. This could only mean one thing, the launch of the Model 3 Highland in the US is close. We recently saw Tesla testing Highland Model 3 cars in California as well.

As the new design-refreshed Model 3 Highland is launched in the US, Tesla will definitely offer these colors on the new model car as it’s available in other regions mentioned above.

A Stealth Grey Tesla Model X was spotted beside a Midnight Silver Metallic Model 3 outside a Tesla store. The pictures from this sighting give us a good visual comparison between both colors. Tesla calls the new gray color ‘Stealth’ for a reason. From certain angles, it’s difficult to distinguish if the vehicle is black or gray. Some angles of light reflection show the true Stealth Grey color (Tesla uses the spelling of Grey with an ‘e’ in its online car configurator).

We also compiled a visual comparison of the Ultra Red vs Red Multi-Coat colors when it was introduced for the Model S sedan last year.

Tesla has not yet launched these new colors for the Giga Berlin-made Model Y for Europe.
