The hyped and anticipated Tesla Full Self-Driving (FSD) version 12.4 has been delayed for weeks now.
It was supposed to start rolling out to non-employee beta testers in the 3rd week of May as Elon Musk announced on X last month. Now the first week of June is half gone and there is still no sign of FSD v12.4 coming to Tesla owner vehicles.
In the meanwhile, two FSD testing videos surfaced on YouTube and X which were claimed by the beta tester to be of v12.4.
The first alleged video of FSD v12.4 (2024.9.5) received mixed reactions. Experienced FSD users rejected that this video is actually of version 12.4. The video starts during the FSD drive in a narrow street. The driver/YouTuber didn’t bother showing the exact software version on his car’s screen before starting the test (watch below).

The 2nd video which allegedly showed v12.4 testing on city streets was posted on YouTube this past weekend. As this video started to accumulate views on the video-sharing platform, the YouTuber took the video private. It’s not available to watch on YouTube anymore.
In the meantime, a Tesla enthusiast downloaded this 2nd video and reposted it on X (formerly Twitter). The owner of this video also posted FSD (Supervised) v12.3.6 testing footage around 2 weeks ago which is still available on his channel named “Khmer Tesla Driver”.
The owner of the video did not explain the reason for removing the video from public viewing. But we have X, where it survives.
The description of the video above (now taken private on YouTube) tells us that FSD v12.4 is still not ready to be deployed to non-employee testers. Khmr wrote:
As an early adopter, I have encountered some setbacks like phantom braking, where the car unexpectedly slows down without apparent cause, taking a wrong turn/exit and requiring more interventions than previous version 12.3.6
Tesla is taking more than the expected time to iron out the bugs in FSD v12.4. The Tesla Community who believes that the company will ultimately solve the myth of fully autonomous driving is anxiously waiting for the next version to watch and test the progress. But Tesla seems reluctant to push a public release that doesn’t address major issues in previous versions.
New Drive Modes in v12.4: Chill, Standard, and Hurry
Tesla CEO Elon Musk revealed on X (Twitter) that new drive modes are coming for FSD. Since the earliest next software update is FSD (Supervised) v12.4, most probably, these new modes will be part of it.
When a longtime Tesla owner and retail investor complained that even the FSD Chill Mode is too aggressive for his taste, Elon Musk popped up in his discussion thread. Musk announced that the modes will change to Chill, Standard, and Hurry.
The Assertive mode is now going to be Hurry. This might mean that the Assertive mode was not aggressive enough, it needed to add more intensity to it, thus we have the Hurry mode.
