Tesla (TSLA) has announced the wide release of its latest Full Self-Driving Supervised self-driving software version FSD 12.5.6.3 (2024.33.35).

The automaker began a limited rollout of FSD v12.5.6.3 during the weekend as it went out to the original group (OG) beta testers and YouTubers first as usual. After a few days of trial and testing, this new version is now going out to common FSD Supervised users. These users also posted their reviews of the new version on video streaming and social media platforms.

Just a few hours ago, Tesla’s AI Chief Ashok Elluswamy announced on X that the FSD 12.5.6.3 has gone wide release. He also summarized the additions and improvements made in this version. However, he explicitly mentioned that only HW4/AI4 vehicles can install this update for now. He wrote:

With the latest release (v12.5.6.3), FSD is using end-to-end neural networks for driving across highways, city streets and parking lots, and has now shipped widely for AI4 vehicles.

Highway driving should be smoother, more natural and even safer than the previous explicit control stack. Check out the different driving styles to set speed and lane change preferences.

Enjoy and let @Tesla_AI know if you have any feedback.

This should be called ‘single stack’ but Ashok did not use this terminology although both highway and navigating city streets stacks are now running on Tesla neural net-based AI Vision. This is probably because both software stacks are still developed separately and deployed under the same version number, later on, Tesla might merge both stacks and unify the stack.

The release notes of FSD 12.5.6.3 are not much different from the previous versions except for the improvement Tesla has made in new Speed Profiles introduced in FSD v12.5.6 last month.

FSD v12.5.6.3 (2024.33.35) Official Release Notes

FSD (Supervised) v12 upgrades the city-streets driving stack to a single end-to-end neural network trained on millions of video clips, replacing over 300k lines of explicit C++ code.

  • Includes vision-based attention monitoring with sunglasses
  • Includes End to End on Highway
  • Earlier and more natural lane change decisions
  • Updated Speed Profiles to now apply to roads and highways with 50 mph (80 kph) or higher speed limit
  • Auto Set Speed has been updated to Max Speed

Tesla has changed the vehicle’s Speed Profile behavior (Chill, Standard, Hurry) with the FSD v12.5.6.3 update. Now the speed profiles will only apply to roads and highways that have 50 mph or higher speed limits. Previously, the minimum 50 mph limit was not applicable.

This also probably means that Autopilot will make speeding decisions completely on its own below the 50 mph (80 km/h) limit. This is a good change, allowing Tesla Autopilot/FSD to have more liberty on most of the city streets while driving autonomously.

Looking at the Tesla software rollout tracking stats on TeslaFi.com, the wide release of FSD v12.5.6.3 is confirmed. As of this writing, 1,475 out of a total of 19,544 data-contributing Tesla vehicles have installed the 2024.33.35 (FSD v12.5.6.3) OTA software update and 352 vehicles are pending installation. This makes up around 9% of the fleet.
