2025 Tesla Cybertruck qualifies for the full $7,500 Federal EV Tax Credit

The new year has finally arrived and automotive enthusiasts need new deals, perks, and discounts to enjoy it. Tesla (TSLA) has some good news for potential customers of its Cybertruck pickup truck.

Today, on 1st January 2025, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) updated its website to include new hybrid and electric vehicles for this year’s tax eligibility.

Interestingly, when you select the year 2025 and Tesla as the manufacturer, the page shows Cybertruck as qualified for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit. Just a day before (31st Dec 2024), the EPA website did not show Cybertruck as qualified for this tax break.

According to the EPA, only two variants of the Cybertruck are eligible for the full $7,500 Federal Tax Credit in 2025:

  • Cybertruck Single Motor
  • Cybertruck Dual-Motor AWD

These two variants qualify for the federal tax incentive because their MSRP is below $80,000. The price tag of Tesla Cybertruck AWD is $79,990 — barely below the threshold.

Tesla hasn’t started production of the Single Motor Cybertruck variant. Therefore, it’s not yet available. However, looking at the price difference of the top-end Cyberbeast ($99,990), the Cybertruck Single Motor should be priced at around $59,990.

As soon as I looked at the EPA website for the Cybertruck Federal EV Tax Credit eligibility, I went to Tesla’s official website. The online Cybertruck vehicle configurator, but apparently, it hasn’t been updated to reflect the latest tax savings on the EV pickup truck purchase.

The Cybertruck configurator still shows the old tax credit for business and commercial customers. But as of 1st January 2025, retail buyers will also be able to get a $7,500 federal tax incentive on the purchase of Cybertruck AWD and Single Motor (not yet in production).

EPA mentioning the Cybertruck Single Motor RWD variant in the tax incentive list suggests that Tesla plans to start production of this base variant this year.

The good thing about this tax incentive is that the $7,500 will be directly deducted from the price of the Tesla Cybertruck at the time of its purchase. For eligible individuals and families, Cybertruck AWD now starts at $72,490.

  1. You’re forgetting the $250 order fee for the AWD Cybertruck. This brings the price to $80,240 which makes it ineligible for the tax credit. That’s why the order page doesn’t show the tax credit. If Tesla gets rid of the order fee, or makes it count towards the $79,990 purchase price, then it will be eligible.

    • The Shipping/Order Fee doesn’t count toward the MSRP. EPA has it officially on their website, this means everything is taken care of and the Cybertruck is eligible. Tesla’s website might not be updated due to the New Year holiday vacations.

If you’re willing to purchase it, you can visit a Tesla Store/Showroom near you for final confirmation and talk to your tax consultant if you qualify or not.
