Tesla (TSLA) CEO Elon Musk has sent a fleet of Cybertrucks to California to help the victims of wildfires and local police and assist the fire department in rescue efforts.

On Sunday, Musk announced on X that Tesla would deploy Cybertrucks in California wildfire-affected areas to provide free internet and electrical power as well.

“Cellular networks & electrical power are currently down in most of Malibu and the Palisades,” Elon Musk posted on X.

“We are going to position Cybertrucks with Starlinks and free WiFi in a grid pattern in the areas that most need it in the greater LA/Malibu area,” Musk announced in another X post yesterday.

Soon after Musk’s announcement, a convoy of Tesla Cybertrucks was spotted rushing towards Los Angeles. These Cybertrucks are equipped with a Starlink mini terminal for satellite broadband that will enable the Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACFD) to ensure connectivity to mitigate communication issues resulting from the wildfires.

Tesla’s Elon Musk also met with the LACFD fire command team yesterday. The chief briefed him on the fire relief efforts and the roadmap ahead. As Musk promised, Tesla Cybertrucks were deployed in Los Angeles to provide internet, electricity, and snacks & drinks to passers-by.

Tesla Cybertruck has 3 power outlets in its bed. With a ~123 kWh battery pack, a Cybertruck can efficiently provide power to Starlink satellites and other equipment that needs a 120V or 240V power source.

Cybertrucks are also tough because of their stainless steel body. Just recently, a Cybertruck survived a blast outside the Trump hotel in Las Vegas. The body of the Tesla truck bore the impact well and also protected its surroundings as no glass windows of the Trump hotel were shattered as the Cybertruck absorbed the impact inside its exoskeleton body.

The convoy of Tesla Cybertruck EV pickup trucks Elon Musk sent to help LA residents were actually waiting for customer deliveries. These are brand new Cybertruck units that were sitting in different Tesla showrooms in California to be handed over to customers this week.

However, Elon Musk prioritized assisting LACFD and helping the people of Los Angeles over his business. He also apologized to customers waiting for the Cybertruck delivery this week in California. Musk assured that these customers would be provided with new Cybertrucks while the existing ones would help in the firefighting efforts.

Musk wrote on X (formerly Twitter):

Apologies to those expecting Cybertruck deliveries in California over the next few days.

We need to use those trucks as mobile base stations to provide power to Starlink Internet terminals in areas of LA without connectivity.

A new truck will be delivered end of week.
