Tesla (TSLA) has just released a new video showing an impressive demonstration of Unsupervised Full Self-Driving (FSD) from its Gigafactory in Austin, Texas.

The footage shows a fleet of vehicles driving themselves from their birthplace (production line) to the loading dock (outbound lot).

“Unsupervised full self-driving begins,” Tesla CEO Elon Musk posted on his social media platform X commenting on the video.

The official Tesla AI account on X described the demonstration as:

Teslas now drive themselves from their birthplace at the factory to their designated loading dock lanes without human intervention.

One step closer to large-scale Unsupervised FSD.

This demonstration by the tech automaker is the first step toward a real-world large-scale self-driving scenario where Tesla vehicles don’t need human supervision from point A to point B. The demonstration also shows these Tesla Model Y EV SUVs parking themselves in the right parking space of the outbound lot.

Tesla has now achieved significant success in automating another task at its factories around the world. Vehicles delivering themselves to the docking area to be loaded on car carrier trailers also eliminates the cost of human drivers doing this task around the clock. This human capital can be adjusted to better tasks at the factory or other company departments.

The automaker has been striving to achieve Unsupervised FSD for a long time. Tesla Gigafactories are designed around this possibility to make the vehicle delivery process as smooth and seamless as possible.

Last year, Tesla started building a birthing tunnel for its Cybertruck EV pickup truck. This tunnel will be used to shorten the time to deliver Cyebrtrucks from their production line to the outbound lot for deliveries. In the near future, like the Model Ys we saw above, these Cybertrucks will be driving themselves out of this tunnel at Giga Texas to the loading dock outside the factory building.

Tesla has released this Unsupervised FSD video demonstration less than 24 hours before the Q4 2024 Earnings Call which is scheduled for tomorrow. Elon Musk and his team will be further explaining its Autopilot Full Self-Driving achievements during the financial update call.
