As we’ve reported before, Tesla Autopilot/FSD testing in China is many levels above that of what we see in North America.

FSD (Intelligent Assisted Driving) beta testers in China are putting Tesla’s self-driving technology through situations and scenarios never seen before. The long winding roads, sharp turns, and risk of tumbling off the cliff at certain points make this trip even more exciting and unforgettable.

After testing Tesla FSD through dangerous mountainous roads, FSD China testers to take on an adventurous journey to the Mount Everest Base Camp (North/Tibet).

Tesla Autopilot will never forget this journey, of course. Since Tesla is not allowed to send Autopilot video data outside China to their US AI machine learning servers, it’s not clear where all this data is being stored for AI self-driving training data in China.

Chinese Tesla Model 3 owner Lao Gao (name auto translated) started his Tesla FSD adventure to the Everest Base Camp last weekend. In total, it’s a 4,000 km (2,485 miles) journey. Mr. Lao also live-streamed his FSD travel on the difficult paths to Mount Everest on the Chinese video streaming website Douyin.

The Tibet/Lhasa Base Camp is at an elevation of 5,200 meters (17,060 feet). Taking on such a challenge is truly daring, keeping in mind that Tesla Autopilot is not perfect and can make a mistake.

Yesterday (2nd May), Lao and his companions reached the Mount Everest Lhasa/Tibet Base Camp after completing 108 sharp turns in total. In the videos of this challenging journey, we can see that Tesla Full Self-Driving (FSD) has performed well.

One of the latest point releases of FSD v13 is installed on Tesla vehicles of Chinese beta testers and early access members. The same FSD v13.2.8 is used for this amazing road to Mount Everest journey.

A few years ago, two Tesla vehicles reached the Mount Everest Base Camp. It was the first time any electric vehicle reached such a far and high-altitude destination. However, these Teslas were driven by humans, and now Tesla FSD has done it as well.
