“The grid has expanded to your Tesla,” the tech & AI-based automaker wrote on Elon Musk’s social media platform X (formerly Twitter). Tesla started rolling out the Tron: Ares update last week, but it’s getting late for some Tesla cars.
The Tron: Ares movie update is part of the new features introduced in 2025.38.3.1 (read release notes). Although it’s just a fun update, it’s not available on all Tesla vehicles.
The Tron update (2025.38 and 2025.38.3.1 onwards) adds this new feature to your Tesla vehicle. The ego (your car) turns into a Tron digital motorcycle in the driving visualizations displayed on a Tesla car’s center display.
Because the rendering requires significant graphics processing power, the legacy Intel Atom-based HW3 vehicles aren’t reportedly getting the Tron update. The new Teslas with AI4/HW4 and AMD Ryzen GPU are getting the new Tron bike visualization feature.
To enable the Tron: Ares visualization, go to Toybox > Tron.
The Tron movie series focuses on a digital world inside computers and artificial intelligence; it resonates with Tesla’s renewed mission in self-driving AI and robotics.
However, Tesla owners are polarized on this new feature. According to some, it’s an advertisement for the movie, and some users just take it as a fun new feature that adds exciting cyberpunk vibes to the on-screen driving visualizations.
A Cybertruck owner received the Tron update on his electric pickup truck and expressed his joy because this vehicle is entirely built around the futuristic cyberpunk theme.
TRON Mode in FSD
In its official video, Tesla showed the Tron motorcycle running as a Full Self-Driving (FSD) ego vehicle with the Autopilot icon turned ON in the top-left corner (now deprecated in FSD v14).
However, as of this writing, Tesla FSD users haven’t reported getting the Tron feature in their latest software release. Tesla is most probably cautious in rolling out this graphic to FSD cars, as it changes the entire rendering of the vehicle on screen.
From a noob’s point of view, Tesla AI shouldn’t have a problem rendering a Tron motorcycle and running it while using Autopilot/FSD.
