Tesla expands Unsupervised Robotaxi Service to the entire Austin Metro Area, Cybercabs spotted across the US

After a gradual extension of the Tesla Robotaxi Service area in the last 12 months since its launch, Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) has finally expanded to the entire Austin Metropolitan Area.

The latest service area map displayed in the Tesla Robotaxi App shows the entire Austin Metro Area (approx 4,285.7 sq miles). Interestingly, according to Tesla’s official statement, this area is also now included in the Unsupervised Robotaxi Service.

“Unsupervised Robotaxi now in the entire Austin Metro area,” Tesla posted on X. This is a big development as Unsupervised Robotaxis are now able to navigate a super large geofenced area of over 4,000 square miles.

Tesla is running its Robotaxi Service in Austin, Texas, using Supervised and Unsupervised Model Y vehicles. The new steering-less two-seater Cybercabs haven’t yet gone into service, although production has begun at Giga Texas.

Unsupervised means there is no driver or safety person in the front seats of a Tesla Robotaxi. Supervised vehicles have a safety person present in the front passenger seat. The automaker began Unsupervised Robotaxi Service in Austin, Texas, in January 2026.

Although this is a geofenced area spanning across the Austin Metropolitan, cars picking up ride-hailing customers give a sense of the future. Tesla has made possible what looked like science fiction a few years ago.

The Unsupervised FSD, Tesla’s advanced AI vision self-driving software, is currently limited only to these geofenced Unsupervised Robotaxis. The automaker hasn’t given a solid timeline for when Usupervised FSD will be available to customer cars, and it would work without a geofence.

Tesla is currently providing its Robotaxi Service in three major cities in Texas and also in the SF Bay Area, California. As Cybercab vehicles come off the production line, Tesla will expand this service across the US in the near future.

Cybercabs Spotted Across the US

As we reported earlier in March, Tesla is continuously loading Cybercabs onto transport trailers and sending them off to different locations in the United States.

There are basically two purposes of these shipments: testing of Unsupervised Full Self-Driving, and displaying these vehicles at showrooms, malls, and expos for public awareness (they’re not up for sale as of now).

Cybercabs are appearing at different Tesla Stores (showrooms) in various states. Tesla is showcasing the new vehicle in states where it hasn’t yet acquired the permit to operate the service, for example, Pennsylvania. The picture above shows another unit on display in Atlanta, Georgia.
