Tesla (TSLA) began rolling out a new software update, 2026.38, yesterday (September 30). This new update is rolling out to Tesla cars globally with the legacy Hardware 3 (HW3/AI3) computer.
As of this writing, the 2026.38 update is deployed to a limited number of Tesla HW3 owners. According to data from TeslaFi.com and Tessie.com, less than 1% of the Tesla fleet has 2026.38 installed.
In the 2026.38 software update, Tesla made the on-screen car visualizations sharper and crisper for HW3 cars.
However, this feature rollout has another limitation. It’s only available for HW3 Teslas with the AMD Ryzen graphics processor. The much older Intel Atom-based cars haven’t received this feature.
Although this is just a cosmetic improvement, owners of older Tesla cars with the Intel Atom GPU are expressing a feeling of abandonment on social media.

Tesla has also improved headlight functionality with the 2026.38 update. Older Tesla cars equipped with matrix LED headlights will unlock the Dynamic Headlight Leveling feature.
NHTSA Recall
This new headlight feature intelligently sets the low-beam target based on driving conditions and nearby traffic (using Tesla AI Vision).
This new feature is probably aimed at the latest NHTSA recall of 19,900 Tesla Model 3 and Model Y vehicles that cause extra glare on low beam.
Early models of the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y did not have matrix LED headlights. So, only a chunk of 19,900 cars will have the Dynamic Headlight Leveling feature with the 2026.38 update.
Tesla will not be able to fully remedy the NHTSA recall over the low-beam glare issue. A physical recall and fix is necessary for a large number of these older Model 3 and Model Y cars.
The automaker started sending letters to owners for a physical recall on September 15.
