Tesla FSD Beta V5 is coming and it’s much better, says Musk

Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced on Twitter that the next version of the Tesla Full Self-Driving (FSD) Beta software is going to be released in the next few days. The upcoming FSD Beta V5 is going to be significantly better compared to the current version, he added.

Elon Musk is referring to the next FSD Beta as V5 because it will be the 5th time the software will be updated for the limited number of Tesla Early Access Program (EAP) members testing and training the Tesla Neural Net / AI.

In an earlier tweet from last week, Musk also hinted at the wide release of FSD Beta will depend on this week’s V5 update’s success. If all goes well, the Full Self-Driving on City Streets will be disbursed to a larger fleet most probably only for Tesla owners from the United States as FSD Beta is still unavailable in Canada. Europe’s FSD future is very much clouded, thanks to the UNECE regulations.

FSD Beta is currently running on the subversion 2020.44.10.x — the feedback on this release from many beta testers is positive and they already have felt many things improved with this update.

Still, Elon Musk cautioned the drivers to be very cautious while using FSD Beta because the new updates can have bugs, as a lot of code is merged in every new release.

Tesla enthusiast Eli Burton is now probably the only other person on the planet besides Elon Musk who has FSD Beta loaded on his Tesla Model S. Although, Elon’s car always has the latest firmware build, he might just be only a week or two behind.

Eli took his Tesla Model S to another Tesla owner with a big YouTube channel named What’s Inside? Family. They filmed FSD Beta on a short excursion in the city where the car performed exceptionally well.

It took unprotected left turns with confidence, the car even creeps forward to check for oncoming traffic before taking the turn — really impressive stuff by Tesla Autopilot and AI team.

Tesla FSD Beta is now also able to detect the blinking traffic lights, not just open or closed, one of the nice attention to detail that can be witnessed in the following video.
