Tesla (TSLA) puts Model Y L Launch Series for sale in the US

-

We reported in June that Tesla (TSLA) would launch the new Model Y L variant in the United States before or around the 250th Independence Day. Interestingly, the electric vehicle maker has put it on sale in the US.

Before the launch of the Model Y L (Long Wheelbase, AWD) in the US, it was a hot topic whether Tesla would ever bring it to this market. Even the company’s CEO, Elon Musk, said that it might never be put on sale in the United States.

However, we are now witnessing that he wasn’t completely correct in his prediction. Perhaps the interest from existing Tesla owners and the audience on X and other social media platforms pushed Tesla to bring the Model Y L to the country.

Tesla did not launch the new Model Y L in Canada. The tariff conflicts between the countries have resulted in a stop to the export of Tesla cars to Canada from the US. Puerto Rico is the only other North American country where Tesla has launched the new Model Y L.

Model Y L Launch Series

The design of the Model Y L is based on the latest generation of the Tesla Model Y Juniper. However, with an extended length and a longer wheelbase compared to the regular Model Y, the Model Y L is made to accommodate 6 passengers.

The initial production batch of the Model Y L is named the Launch Series in the US. With any Signature or Launch Series vehicles, Tesla gives a few perks that are later stripped from normal cars. The badge alone sets the owner apart as an early adopter.

Enhanced Tech and Improvements

Tesla Model Y L Launch Series comes with 18 speakers and 1 subwoofer. This is an enhanced audio system. The Model Y Premium AWD comes with 15 speakers and 1 subwoofer.

The screen sizes are the same as the Premium AWD trim, which are 16″ first-row and 8″ 2nd-row.

From a safety standpoint, even the third-row seats have child-safe airbags.

Tesla has re-tuned the suspension of the Model Y L for adaptive damping and reduced road noise.

The 6-seat setup of the Tesla Model Y L comes with adjustable middle-row captain seats and powered armrests to ease entry to the 3rd row of the vehicle.

Tesla Model Y L’s towing capacity is 3,500 lbs with a Class II towing bar out of the box.

Price and Availability

The Launch Series Model Y L is available in the United States for $61,990. In our last report on Model Y L, we estimated that Tesla would offer the Model Y L in the US below the price of the Model Y Performance.

However, this isn’t the case; the Tesla Model Y Performance comes at a price tag of $57,990. The Model Y L Launch Series is $4,000 more expensive than the Model Y Performance.

The estimated delivery timeline shown in Tesla’s online car configurator is October to November 2026 for the entire US. This suggests that Tesla has already begun production of the Model Y L at Giga Texas. Some of these new Model Ys were even spotted at the outbound lot of the Giga Texas factory.
