Cybertruck’s size will be reduced by 5% — Elon tells Jay Leno

CNBC has teased some more clips from Jay Leno’s Garage, from the episode that will be featuring Elon Musk, Cybertruck, the Next-gen Tesla Roadster, and more (videos below).

Even though these clips are very brief but we still hear some interesting tidbits coming from Tesla CEO Elon Musk regarding the Cybertruck.

Just last month Elon Musk posted on Twitter that the size of the Cybertruck will be reduced by ~3% — but now on this popular automotive show, he tells Jay Leno that the overall size of the Tesla’s disruptive pickup truck will be reduced by ~5% (compared to the prototype shown at the unveiling event last year).

When Elon said the overall size would reduce by ~3%, he also gave out a 1.5% estimated reduction in the interior dimensions of the Cybertruck, so we can safely assume that now the interior will shrink by about ~2.5% which should be still good enough for most.

The reduction in Tesla Cybertruck‘s size is definitely the result of most people saying ‘it won’t fit my garage’ — so Tesla had to find a solution, the proportions will be kept, promises Elon Musk.

Tesla is currently on the verge of deciding the location of the Cybertruck Terafactory, and Austin, Houston, and Tulsa are competing hard to get it to their city — if everything goes according to plan, the Tri and Dual-Motor Cybertruck variants should go into production sometime late next year.

Elon Musk and Jay Leno go for a spin in the 2021 Tesla Cybertruck from CNBC.

In the cover photo of the video above, Elon Musk is standing on the top of the retractable Cybertruck bed cover, not sure if he wants to show the strength of the material or just having fun but looks interesting especially when Jay Leno and Tesla Chief Designer Franz von Holzhausen look up to him with a smile.

From the same episode of Jay Leno’s Garage, Elon Musk tells the host that the next Tesla Roadster will have the SpaceX rocket thrusters option as well, much to Jay Leno’s surprise, he explained that the thrusters will be filled with ultra-high-pressure compressed air.

Unfortunately, the Next-gen Tesla Roadster will now go into production in 2022 which was originally aimed for 2020, but the Cybertruck has taken precedence and the Tesla Semi Truck is also in the pipeline for quite a bit of time.

On a recent installment of the Joe Rogan podcast (video below), Elon Musk said that the Tesla Roadster production and deliveries will only start after the Semi and the Cybertruck — that pushes the timeline to at least 2022.
