We didn’t hear much about Tesla Cybertruck’s safety from the company’s CEO Elon Musk during the Delivery Event presentation on Thursday. The official web page of Tesla’s pickup truck does not mention anything about its crash-worthiness as well.
However, a short video of the Cybertruck crash test surfaced on X (Twitter) after the event. This is the 2nd part of the Cybertruck crash test teaser video that Tesla released in April. Since then, the automaker has been silent on Cybertruck’s crash safety tests.
A crash-tested Tesla Cybertruck was spotted at Giga Texas in October. But we did not hear much about it either. This unit was tested at the newly-developed Tesla Crash Lab at Giga Texas. Tesla developed its first dedicated crash testing lab at its Fremont factory in California.
The Cybertruck crash test video has received more than 25 million views on X (Twitter) as of this writing The world has been waiting on the crash safety rating of the Cybertruck. Tesla’s electric pickup truck has not gone through the NHTSA crash tests, so we don’t have specific ratings for various evaluations.
The above video of the Cybertruck received mixed comments — as polarizing as the truck itself. Although the cabin of the truck did not sustain much damage in the Full Frontal crash test at 35 mph (~56 km/h), it is receiving criticism for bad occupant safety in this type of impact.
The other two tests shown in this video are the Side Impact at 38 mph (~61 km/h) and the rollover test at 16 mph (~26 km/h). Tesla Cybertruck performed very well in both of these tests due to the stainless steel door and a low center of gravity due to the battery pack floor.
Interestingly, another Tesla enthusiast compiled a video collage of ICE pickup trucks going through the same Full Frontal crash test. These trucks include Toyota Tacoma, Ford Ranger, Nissan Frontier, Jeep Gladiator, and Chevy Colorado.
We can see that the Cybertruck due to its rigid body and structure received less penetration in the frontal crash test against multiple ICE trucks. The crumple zone of the Cybertruck is apparently much more impact-absorbent than other trucks. The Side Impact test was also excellent as the barrier hardly penetrated the steel body and the cabin.
My friend, Tesla owner & enthusiast Gail Alfar who also has met Elon Musk once — recorded the video shown above at the Cybertruck Delivery Event. One of the crash-tested Tesla Cybertrucks was on display at Giga Texas during the event. This truck had gone through a Full Frontal crash-safety test.

The full-hard, cold-rolled, stainless-steel body panels are designed to absorb impact during a crash.The front and rear underbody castings feature energy-absorbing ribs that help dissipate crash energy.
In this side crash, the skin of the door carried the majority of the crash load.
These are the only details of the Cybertruck’s crash-worthiness that Tesla provided to the public during the event. We will have to wait until the NHTSA crash test results for a broader picture of the Cybertruck safety.
