Tesla (TSLA) CEO Elon Musk and the company’s head of real-world AI, Ashok Elluswamy, both shared their experiences with the latest version of Unsupervised Full Self-Driving (FSD).

Musk and Ashok took rides in the latest HW4 (AI4) processor-based Tesla Model Y Juniper vehicles to test Unsupervised FSD.

The term ‘Unsupervised’ refers to the absence of a driver or safety monitor in the front seats. The rider occupies the rear seat of a Tesla vehicle, from where there’s no chance to take control of the car in a safety-related situation.

“A Tesla with no safety monitor in the car and me sitting in the passenger seat took me all around Austin on Sunday with perfect driving,” Elon Musk shared his Unsupervised FSD experience.

“It’s an amazing experience!” Ashok responded to Musk’s X post with the following video in which he’s seen taking a ride in Unsupervised FSD in Austin, Texas.

“If you remember, a few months ago we had safety monitors in passenger seats, but these Teslas are done now with no one in the car, no one’s driving the car,” Tesla’s head of AI said in the video.

In the 2-minute video clip shared by Ashok Elluswamy, the Unsupervised FSD-enabled vehicle drove through the streets of Austin, Texas. Took a right turn at an intersection, patiently waited for the traffic light, and most of all, handled pedestrians naturally like a human driver.

The top-tier management testing its self-driving system and taking the risk of a ride without any driver or safety person in the car speaks volumes about the confidence they have in Tesla FSD.

The Unsupervised FSD software is a totally different, unannounced version of the AI software. The current publicly-distributed versions are FSD v14.2.1.25 and FSD v14.2.2.1. These versions require human supervision and attentiveness at all times to mitigate possible mistakes and errors made by Tesla FSD (Supervised).

Tesla has acquired the state-wide approval to test its Full Self-Driving technology and launch the Robotaxi service in Texas. This gives the automaker the freedom to test FSD in a very large area and gather data to further enhance its AI-based vision driving system.

Companies from the automotive industry approach Tesla to license its FSD AI technology. However, the requirements they counterpose to Tesla are unreasonable. Elon Musk says, license Tesla FSD or face the disruption that’s visible on the horizon.
