Elon Musk opens up about FSD Beta Canada & Tesla air suspension algorithm

In his last night’s tweetstorm, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that Full Self-Driving (FSD) Beta is coming to Canada most probably next month. Many Tesla enthusiasts and owners from Canada have been waiting for this to happen since Tesla selected a handful of FSD Beta testers from the US, mostly from California.

Several Tesla Community members have also been running the #FSDBetaCanada hashtag on Twitter and tagging Elon Musk to get his attention on this matter, at last, he has responded on this.

Another interesting bit that Elon Musk dropped in the same discussion thread is about controlling the Model S and Model X air suspension via voice commands. Musk hinted that this won’t be needed since Tesla is working on integrating the adaptive air suspension with the Full Self-Driving package. The height and damping controls will work autonomously according to the road conditions and terrain, he added.

Tesla’s air suspension is already fully adaptive to the road conditions, speed, and driver input, etc. Integrating it with the FSD module will make it more seamless into the autonomous driving experience.

Tesla adaptive air suspension currently has two manual presets Standard and Sport, which the owner’s manual defines as follows:

Adaptive Suspension Damping: Choose from STANDARD or SPORT to adjust the feel of the suspension system. STANDARD provides a softer and more fluid ride whereas SPORT provides a firmer, more controlled ride that increases driver engagement and connection to the road.

Tesla updated the Model S and X adaptive air suspension last year by further refining the engineering of this vehicle component. Tesla stated the following in a detailed blog post on the air suspension design refresh:

We’ve also upgraded our air suspension system for Model S and Model X with fully-adaptive damping, giving it an ultra-cushioned feel when cruising on the highway or using Autopilot, and a responsive, exhilarating confidence during dynamic driving.

The rollout of FSD Beta is now expanding to more beta testers in North America which implies that Tesla is getting some good results and feedback from the beta testers both visually and the data gathered by the Neural Net.

Since the FSD Beta Version 5 delivery is just a couple of days away, we might just witness the air suspension integration in the V5 update but it hasn’t been confirmed by Elon Musk, maybe with the wide release.
