Tesla (TSLA) has now created a dedicated ‘Heavy Duty Trucking’ department which will oversee the development and production of the Tesla Semi and possibly other electric haulers in the future.

Jerome Guillen who was Tesla’s President of Automotive before March has now been appointed as President of Heavy Duty Trucking by the automaker. Trucking has been a long-time passion of Mr. Guillen, he has in the past served as the General Manager of a trucking company named Freightliner LLC. Jerome also leads the development of the Tesla Semi Truck as VP, Trucks, and Programs at Tesla (Source: LinkedIn profile).

As VP, Trucks and Programs previously, Jerome’s job description reads the following:

Overall leader for the Tesla Truck program: all-electric Class 8 truck with unmatched performance.

His LinkedIn profile also says that if you are interested in adding the class-8 Tesla Semi Truck to your profile you can message him directly on the professional social media platform.

Tesla informed the Securities and Exchange Commission of Guillen’s new responsibilities in a recent 8K filing. The public document states the following on the new role of President of Heavy Duty Trucking:

Effective March 11, 2021, Jerome Guillen, President, Automotive, of Tesla, Inc. (“Tesla”) transitioned to the role of President, Tesla Heavy Trucking. Since September 2018, Mr. Guillen has successfully overseen Tesla’s vehicle programs, supply chain and service infrastructure and contributed to the development of leaders, organizations and processes capable of continuing to direct and operate those functions for our passenger vehicle programs. As Tesla prepares to enter the critical heavy trucks market for the first time, Mr. Guillen will now leverage his extensive background in this industry to focus on and lead all aspects of the Tesla Semi program, including the related charging and servicing networks.

As we previously reported, we should be expecting a promo video of the Tesla Semi soon as it was spotted being tested at the Tesla Fremont factory test track. Sooner than expected, Tesla has released the following teaser video of the Tesla Semi zipping through the race track like a sports car, that’s the beauty of electrification besides zero-emissions.

In recent months, Tesla has made several changes to the design of the Semi Truck that hint at the truck might be getting closer to production. In the past, CEO and Technoking of Tesla, Elon Musk said that the Semi will be produced at the automaker’s Gigafactory Nevada.

Production was planned to start last year but due to the pandemic and battery supply constraints, it’s estimated to start this year. But these delays are not stopping big clients from placing their orders for the class-8 electric hauler, just last year Tesla received its biggest Tesla Semi order to date, placed by the Canada-based Pride Group Enterprises.

All of these developments kill the rumors that Tesla Semi Truck is never going to go to production or its 500+ mile range is against the laws of Physics, it just needs 5X more batteries compared to a Model 3 or Model Y.
