Tesla CEO Elon Musk has fulfilled his promise of making Tesla merch buyable with the Dogecoin cryptocurrency. Just as the Tesla software team rolled out the company’s online store with Dogecoin as a payment method, Musk took to Twitter to announce this awaited feature.
This move by Tesla and Elon Musk has rejoiced the DOGE community and the memes started to roll in real fast. Last year Musk hinted at the possibility of a Dogecoin easter egg hidden inside a Tesla software update but no one is still able to find it, “Maybe if it sees a Shiba Inu, the car renders a Dogecoin,” he had tweeted.
But buying Tesla merch with a cryptocurrency especially with the fun-filled meme-based Dogecoin is super cool.
Tesla has not enabled Dogecoin as the payment method for the entire store as of now. The following 4 Tesla merch items are currently buyable with Dogecoin and their prices are:
- Cyberwhistle – 300 DOGE
- Giga Texas Belt Buckle – 835 DOGE
- Cyberquad ATV for Kids – 12,020 DOGE
- Cybertruck Graffiti Trucker Hat – 200 DOGE
This is a very limited number of items that can be bought from the Tesla online store using Dogecoin. But Tesla is probably testing how it all goes before expanding the number of available items with DOGE.
When a user makes a purchase with Dogecoin at the Tesla online shop, the order confirmation screen shows the famous Shiba Inu meme where the Doge is wearing sunglasses.
Dogecoin is Elon Musk’s personal favorite cryptocurrency. Last year when he was asked what makes him choose DOGE over other cryptocurrencies as he announced in its further development, “Doge has dogs & memes, whereas the others do not,” Musk replied.
Musk also bought a Shiba Inu dog last year (2021) that he has named Floki. He keeps Floki at home and even shared some cute moments with him.
As soon as Musk announced that Tesla is now accepting Dogecoin as a payment method at the Tesla online store, the price of DOGE has started to rise once again. As of this writing, DOGE was trading at $0.197007 a 14.41% improvement in the last 24 hours (see Coindesk for the latest price).
