Tesla CEO Elon Musk talked about the Cybertruck in his opening remarks during the company’s Q2 2023 earnings call on Wednesday.
He provided some interesting updates on the Cybertruck. But the Tesla Community especially the Cybertruck reservation holders were expecting more information such as concrete delivery dates and detailed specs.
Musk briefly talked about the Cybertruck production update and went on to describe the utility of the unconventional electric pickup truck. The Tesla (TSLA) Q2 2023 report contained some photos from the Cybertruck production line as well (pics).
Tesla produced the first release candidate (RC #1) Cybertruck at Giga Texas last Friday. “We continue to build the release candidates of the Cybertruck on our final production line in Austin,” Elon Musk said on the Q2 call.
Despite Tesla continuing to produce the final Cybertruck RCs, Elon Musk said that the deliveries are still going to happen only later this year.
Cybertruck Interior and Exterior Space
Although Tesla is still far away from releasing the official Cybertruck dimensions, Elon Musk gave a few hints about its interior and exterior space during the Q2 2023 earnings call.
Since its unveiling in 2019, the length of Tesla’s Cybertruck has been a point of discussion due to its large size. Analysts and reservation holders feared that it would not fit in a standard garage. The length of a standard garage in North America is from 20 to 24 feet.
According to Musk’s comments during the Q2 call, Cybertruck will fit in a 20 feet garage. “This is the first truck that we’re aware of that will have 4 doors, over a six-foot bed, and will fit into a 20-foot garage,” he said.
“This is no small car but we really cared about the exterior dimensions of the Cybertruck down to the last millimeter,” Musk added.
Through the years, Tesla has been making changes to the Cybertruck design. The alpha prototypes seen at the Fremont factory and at the automaker’s 2023 Shareholder Meeting looked a little smaller. Musk’s comments solidify this visual analysis, Tesla did reduce the size of the Cybertruck to fit a normal garage.
“We’re trying to get right in the middle of the Goldilocks zone, not too big, not too small, and then really maximize the utility of the volume,” Musk said.
According to Tesla’s Elon Musk, Cybertruck is even more spacious inside than one could imagine. “It’s the biggest on the outside but it’s even bigger on the inside,” he said.
“One of the elements of good design is, it should feel bigger on the inside than it looks on the outside,” Elon Musk added.
