Tesla (TSLA) has finally overcome enormous challenges and reached a major milestone. The electric automaker rolled the first-ever production Cybertruck off the assembly line on Friday 14th July 2023.

Tesla revealed the news of its first production Cybertruck getting produced in an official tweet at a very early hour today. In a picture tweet, Giga Texas engineers and workers are seen celebrating the production of the Cybertruck VIN#1.

It has been almost 4 years since Tesla unveiled the Cybertruck in November 2019. The highly anticipated event became even more hyped when the Cybertruck window glass cracked in a live toughness test by Tesla Chief Designer Franz von Holzhausen.

Tesla Cybertruck production got delayed for a variety of reasons. The world got hit by the Covid pandemic soon after the Cybertruck was introduced. Tesla along with the entire automotive industry was facing supply chain issues during the Covid years.

Since Tesla was already struggling with production delays and even shutdowns at the Fremont factory, the automaker lost focus on the Cybertruck production for some time. Meanwhile, the pre-orders kept piling up and crossed even 1 million.

The other major reason for the Cybertruck production delay was the constant design changes and introduction of new features. As Tesla progressed with the finalization of its design, the automaker had to re-adjust the dimensions of the Cybertruck and remove and introduce new features as well.

At the time of the unveiling, the Tri-Motor version was the top variant of the Cybertruck. But with time as Rivian demonstrated the quad-motor tank turn, and Hummer EV coming with the Crab Mode, Tesla decided to announce the Quad-Motor Cybertruck variant.

However, Tesla CEO Elon Musk promised multiple times that production and deliveries of the Cybertruck will start in 2023. Tesla is actually been producing limited-scale close-to-production alpha prototypes since earlier this year.

But last month, Tesla completed the commissioning of 2 Cybertruck Giga Casting machines at Giga Texas. This milestone gave a clear hint that the automaker is close to starting Cybertruck production, and here we are with the 1st production Cybertruck a few weeks later.

Tesla is also completing the Cybertruck cold weather testing in New Zealand. This and other validations will smooth out the hurdles in starting deliveries this year. Tesla however has the capability to fix issues by sending over-the-air software updates to its vehicles, so some fine-tuning later on should not be an issue.

As it’s a tradition at Tesla, the top variant of a vehicle goes into production. So, Tesla will put the 4-wheel steering Quad-Motor Cybertruck in production first. Elon Musk had already clearly stated this in 2021. “Initial production will be 4 motor variant, with independent, ultra-fast response torque control of each wheel,” he tweeted.

On an interesting side note, the Cybertruck production-start announcement tweet has received over 34 million views on Twitter. This is fairly one of the most viewed tweets in the history of Tesla.
