After the recent progression in deploying the Actually Smart Summon from the set of its Full Self-Driving (FSD) features list, Tesla (TSLA) has set an official FSD roadmap ahead.
The automaker took to its CEO Elon Musk-owned social media platform X (formerly Twitter) for the official announcement of the FSD roadmap for the next 2 months.
Additionally, Tesla revealed its plan to launch Full Self-Driving in Europe and China. Of course, the China & Europe FSD launch is bound with regulatory approval. If all goes well with regulatory approvals, Tesla expects to roll out FSD Supervised in China and Europe in Q1 2025.
My friend and Tesla owner Steven Peeters from Belgium regularly posts updates on his YouTube channel on the UNECE self-driving car regulation. In his latest commentary on this topic, he reported that the next UNECE regulatory body meeting is scheduled for September (watch below).
FSD Roadmap Ahead of the Robotaxi Event
Tesla (TSLA) has set some aggressive goals for releasing the next FSD Supervised versions in the US and Canada in September and October.
The automaker’s highly anticipated Robotaxi is scheduled for 10th October. According to a report by Bloomberg, Tesla has chosen the 110-acre Warner Bros studio in Los Angeles, California to demonstrate its Robotaxi.
So, the FSD roadmap milestone logically should be completed before the Robotaxi unveiling event takes place. It was originally scheduled for August 8 (8/8) but got delayed for various reasons.
Tesla’s official X (Twitter) account @Tesla_AI posted the following details of its FSD Supervised roadmap for this and the next month.
Due to popular demand, Tesla AI team release roadmap:
September 2024
- v12.5.2 with ~3x improved miles between necessary interventions
- v12.5.2 on AI3 computer (unified models for AI3 and AI4)
- Actually Smart Summon
- Cybertruck Autopark 📐
- Eye-tracking with sunglasses 🕶️
- End-to-End network on highway 🛣️
- Cybertruck FSD 📐
October 2024
- Unpark, Park and Reverse in FSD
- v13 with ~6x improved miles between necessary interventions
Q1 2025
FSD in China (pending regulatory approval)
FSD in Europe (pending regulatory approval)

“Hopefully, RHD markets in late Q1, early Q2, pending regulatory approval,” Elon Musk added to the roadmap inforamtion.
Let’s discuss each of the points of the FSD release roadmap for September and October to improve our understanding of what this means for Tesla owners and what they should expect.
September
FSD v12.5.2 Improvements and HW3 & HW4 Unified Model
September is bringing good news for Hardware 3 (HW4/AI3) Tesla car owners. They’re already receiving the FSD 12.5 update (version 12.5.1.5) OTA software update. Tesla is trying its best to keep these older cars with the legacy HW3/AI3 computer on par with the newer HW4/AI4 cars in self-driving technology.
Tesla states that in September, a unified model of both HW3 and HW4 cars will be achieved by its AI software development team. This will result in software version deployment at almost the same time for both generations of Tesla vehicles.
Currently, Tesla first builds the next FSD 12.5 version for HW4 cars, then the Tesla AI team optimizes it further for a smaller model size for HW3 cars. The unification of both models will mean seamless rollouts for both cars.
Tesla also claims that FSD v12.5.2 has improved 3x when it comes to miles per intervention (mpi). Tesla FSD v12.5.2 (2024.27.5) is already rolling out to select Tesla owners daily as data from TeslaFi.com suggests.
Actually Smart Summon Wide Release
Tesla is still holding the Actually Smart Summon (ASS) feature limited to a few Tesla owners for safety and analysis. However, Tesla plans to start its wide release next week with the software update version 2024.27.20 (FSD v12.5.3).
Cybertruck Autopark
The head of Tesla AI Ashok Elluswamy hinted on X (Twitter) earlier this week that Cybertruck Autopark will be demonstrated on the weekend.
“We are glad that you finally learnt how to park yourself. Looking forward to you showing this off this weekend,” Ashok wrote on X (Twitter).
Eye-Tracking with Sunglasses
Tesla introduced the vision-based Autopilot monitoring system in May. This monitoring system uses the cabin camera to keep a check on the driver running the vehicle on Autopilot/FSD.
Currently, the Tesla Vision-based monitoring counts wearing sunglasses as a violation and starts issuing alerts and nags. Tesla owners asked to be allowed to wear sunglasses while using FSD Supervised and Tesla is working on tracking driver’s eyes on the road with the interior cabin camera.
This update is also included in the guidance for FSD features coming in September.
End-to-End on Neural Net on Highways
Tesla successfully converted its city-streets FSD stack from 300K+ lines of code to an end-to-end neural network-based AI vision that drives its vehicles.
The automaker is still working on converting the highway stack from code to an end-to-end neural network-based decision. A few months ago, Elon Musk said that Tesla will unify the city and highway software stacks to achieve a single stack.
However, the highway stack still needs to be shifted to Tesla Vision AI. The next step then will be merging the two stacks for seamless city and highway driving on FSD (learn more in our report).
Cybertruck FSD
Tesla already announced that the Cybertruck will get Full Self-Driving (FSD) Supervised in September read the report here).
October
Unpark, Park and Reverse in FSD
Tesla vehicles are now able to park and reverse in Actually Smart Summon mode while in a parking lot or driveway. But these features need to be added to Supervised Full Self-Driving for use in general scenarios.
Reverse, parking, and unpark in FSD will be a major milestone for Tesla owners and a good advancement toward self-driving by Tesla (TSLA).
Launch of FSD v13
Perhaps the most interesting and exciting launch of Autopilot/FSD in the entire roadmap. With each major revision of Autopilot FSD, Tesla owners and enthusiasts expect big improvements from the automaker.
Tesla wrote on X (Twitter), “v13 with ~6x improved miles between necessary interventions”. FSD v13 will greatly reduce the miles per intervention (mpi) count. Tesla aims to reduce it to 1 intervention per year of driving as per Elon Musk — a major achievement towards Level 5 autonomous driving.
