Unplugged Tesla Model S Plaid faces Ferrari Enzo in a drag racing challenge

Some classic Italian supercars have invited the modern and powerful Tesla Model S Plaid electric sedan to a drag racing challenge. One of them is the iconic Ferrari Enzo, other cars include a Maserati MC12 and a Ferrari F12.

To make this all happen without making a lot of noise where people live around — Petersen Automotive Museum and Unplugged Performance chose a dragstrip in a deserted place at the Santa Margarita Ranch.

No doubt that the Tesla Model S Plaid is today’s best car but these Ferraris and the Maseratis were my first crush in the car world — Tesla hadn’t even been born then.

Before watching the drag race video below, let’s compare the basic performance specs of these cars against the Tesla Model S Plaid.

Yes, that’s right, Plaid looks way superior on paper performance-wise but the organizers gave its challengers some advantage too — rolling starts. Still, the Tesla Model S Plaid won most of the 1/4 mile runs.

Slowly, the disruption electric cars are bringing upon internal combustion engine (ICE) cars is turning them into entertainment objects like horses today. With higher performance at a lower cost of manufacturing and maintenance, Tesla and other EVs are becoming more relevant in today’s world than ICE vehicles.

Even the most powerful of these three supercars, the Ferrari F12 admitted defeat at the hands of the Tesla Model S Plaid. The race was decided as both cars launched off the line.

With improvements in technology, Tesla Model S Plaid not only delivers the quickest acceleration of a production car. But it is also able to repeat it with consistency even at a lower state-of-charge (SoC). So, in this video, it is obvious that the Plaid was fully charged in the beginning and it defeated both the Ferrari Enzo & F12 and the Maserati MC12 without being recharged again.

Last year, one of the newest Italian sensations, the Ferrari SF90 Stradale also challenged the Tesla Model S Plaid to the dragstrip and lost as well but not so miserably.

Let’s watch how these interesting quarter-mile drag races took place in the wild.
