“Version 12 won’t be beta,” Technoking of Tesla (TSLA) Elon Musk stated in a tweet earlier this week. He was responding to a Tesla influencer’s question asking if FSD Beta V12 will be released this year.
Musk’s response is concise but drops a big hint about the development progress of Tesla’s Full Self-Driving software. However, Elon Musk did not reply to tweets asking if version 12 will be released this year or the next.
Some analysts took a hint that Elon Musk’s response meant that Version 12 will be released this year (in about 6 months). But Musk did not drop a timeline hint anywhere in his tweet or in a follow-up tweet.
It has been more than 2 and a half years since Tesla rolled out the first version of FSD Beta in October 2020. After thousands of improvements and hundreds of subversion releases, Tesla Autopilot is still in beta.
This is not the first time that Elon Musk has talked about Full Self-Driving Version 12. Just last month he talked about it in one of his tweets.
“V12 is reserved for when FSD is end-to-end AI, from images in to steering, brakes & acceleration out,” Musk tweeted.
In further discussion on Tesla Autopilot Full Self-Driving, Musk explained the strategy that Tesla is planning for the rollout of the non-beta FSD.
“Once FSD is super smooth (not just safe), we will roll out a free month trial for all cars in North America,” Elon Musk disclosed that Tesla will be offering a free one-month trial of Autopilot Full Self-Driving as it comes out of the beta phase.
“Then extend to rest of world after we ensure it works well on local roads and regulators approve it in that country,” Musk further stated.
Talking about regulatory approvals, Europe’s UNECE regulatory body has been the main reason FSD Beta was never rolled out in this region.
My friend from Belgium, Tesla owner, and YouTuber Steven Peeters recently explained in the following video that UNECE has finally made some updates to its regulations. These new UNECE DCAS regulations might help Tesa launch FSD Beta in Europe next year.
