An odd happening was sighted at Giga Texas yesterday — Tesla removed the window coverings from the Cybertruck Giga Casting building structure. This allowed local observers to look through the windows and give us some interesting updates.

Joe Tegtmeyer has been covering Giga Texas for a long time now and posts multiple construction update videos on his YouTube channel every week. What Joe’s drone camera showed us through the now transparent windows of the Cybertruck casting structure held some good news for the Cybertruck reservation holders.

Tesla has already installed two 9,000-ton Cybertruck Giga Casting machines made by IDRA inside this manufacturing area. This has strengthened the hopes for Cybertruck production-start this year.

23 June 2023 Giga Texas inside images of the casting machine area! Window covers removed strangely right when we are seeing a lot of Cybertrucks in the wild! Two 9K Giga Presses are installed, a new N-S foundation under construction in the E bay!

Joe Tegtmeyer shared the update in a tweet on Friday.

Interestingly enough, Tesla is not settling for only 2 Giga Presses inside this Cybertruck manufacturing area at Giga Texas. We can witness in the video and screenshot below that the automaker has also laid the foundation for the 3rd machine as well.

Since IDRA’s 9,000-ton casting machines are the world’s largest Giga Presses used by any auto manufacturer, these require a ton of preparation to be installed and commissioned. We can see in the image above that a large footing/foundation has been prepared to install the 3rd Giga Press for Cybertruck production.

Tesla hired the Italian company IDRA to make customized Giga Casting machines for Tesla Model Y (6,000-ton version) and later on for the Cybertruck (9,000-ton version).

These specially designed 9,000-ton Giga Casting machines will produce the front and rear underbody castings for the Cybertruck. There has been no official confirmation of the production rate of these machines. But the more machines, the better as Tesla needs to clear a backlog of more than a million Cybertruck reservations.

During the Q1 2023 earnings call, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced that the automaker is making Cybertruck alpha prototypes at the pilot production plant at Giga Texas.

With the extensive testing going on in recent months, and multiple sightings of the Cybertrucks in the wild, Tesla must be very close to start production for customer deliveries.
